Word Fall — Language Learning Game

Introduction

Word Fall is designed with your privacy in mind. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what is stored. Word Fall does not require an account, a login, or any form of registration.

Data Collection

BuzziSoftware does not collect personal data from Word Fall. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no tracking, and no cookies. We do not build user profiles and we do not share or sell any data. The only data that leaves your device is described in the "Pronunciation Assessment" section below, and only when you choose to use that feature.

Local Data Storage

Your wave progress, high score, learned-words list, per-word statistics, and settings are stored locally on your device. This data contains no personal information and is never sent to BuzziSoftware.

iCloud Sync

So your progress follows you between your iPhone and iPad without an account, Word Fall writes the same progress data to Apple's iCloud key-value storage. That storage belongs to your own Apple Account: BuzziSoftware has no access to it and cannot read it. If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Word Fall in iOS Settings, the app keeps working with local data only.

Pronunciation Assessment — Third-Party AI Service

Word Fall includes an optional pronunciation practice feature. It only runs when you tap the record button and grant microphone access; iOS asks for that permission the first time, and you can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings.

What data is sent

  • Your voice recording (audio captured by the microphone)
  • The reference word or sentence you are practicing
  • An anonymous device identifier, used only to enforce usage limits
  • If you have an active subscription, your Apple transaction identifier is also sent, so the proxy can apply the subscriber usage limit instead of the free one

Who receives your data

The recording and the reference text are sent to Microsoft Azure Speech Services through our secure proxy server hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Microsoft processes the audio solely to generate pronunciation scores (accuracy, fluency, completeness, and prosody) and returns the results to the app. No other third party receives this data.

About the anonymous device identifier

The identifier is a random value generated on first use and stored in your device's Keychain. It is not your Apple Account, your advertising identifier, or any hardware identifier, and it cannot be linked back to you. It exists only so the proxy can count how many assessments a device has requested and apply fair-use limits. The counters live on the proxy, not on your device, and expire automatically within 40 days. The identifier itself is kept in the device Keychain, which iOS preserves independently of the app, so reinstalling the app does not reset it.

Data retention

Audio is processed in real time. Neither Cloudflare nor BuzziSoftware stores your recording — it is passed through, scored, and discarded. Your scores are saved only on your device. Microsoft Azure Speech Services processes the audio in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Subscriptions

Word Fall is free to play and offers an optional subscription, Word Fall PRO, managed entirely through Apple's StoreKit. All payment processing, billing, renewal, and cancellation are handled by Apple. BuzziSoftware never receives your name, payment details, or Apple Account information. When you use the pronunciation feature as a subscriber, the app sends your Apple transaction identifier to our proxy solely to apply the subscriber usage limit; it carries no personal or payment information.

Children's Privacy

Word Fall is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. It contains no user-generated content, no chat, no advertising, and no external links inside gameplay. Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children either.
